To measure shoulder width accurately, you’ll need a flexible tape measure and someone to help. Follow these simple steps:
Stand relaxed in a natural, upright position. Ask someone to measure across your shoulders using the tape measure. Start at the outer edge of one collarbone (where your shoulder ends), stretch the tape across your back, and stop at the outer edge of the opposite collarbone. Make sure the tape lies flat and straight — not too tight and not too loose.
Getting this measurement right helps ensure your suit jacket fits well at the shoulders — not too tight, not too wide — for a clean, flattering shape.
Perfect Fit:
- The shoulder line should sit flush — not too wide, not too narrow. The shoulder seam should align cleanly with the top of your upper arm.

Don’t puff out your chest or hold your breath — normal breathing helps ensure the right measurement. Ask someone to help you read and record the result.
